Website relaunch for the episcopal aid organization Misereor

Misereor is a Catholic aid organization for development cooperation and emergency aid based in Aachen, Germany.

Since 1958, Misereor has been supporting people where poverty is greatest and working to ensure that they can claim their rights. Together with their local partners and with people like you, they are committed to protection, help for self-help and prospects for a life in dignity.

Innovative design and smooth communication

In January 2023, we impressed Misereor with a bold and innovative website design in a pitch and won them over as a new customer.

While the programming of a new website is normally the responsibility of JUNGMUT, in this project it was clear from the outset that the technical implementation would be handled by Misereor’s long-standing and trusted developers from Fixpunkt.

Our challenge was to ensure seamless communication between all parties involved. We achieved this by working together as equals and through continuous coordination in all phases of the project. The success of this project is the result of excellent cooperation, for which we would like to thank the entire Fixpunkt team.

A common path through workshops

As part of the website relaunch, various workshops were held to define the website’s goals and target groups, create personas, jointly develop wireframes and optimize the information architecture.

The joint workshops have made a significant contribution to better understanding the needs of users and optimizing the content and functions of the website.

By involving the various stakeholders, it was possible to ensure that the website takes into account the different internal and external requirements. At the same time, the intensive collaboration in the workshops enabled the Misereor team to change perspectives and put users at the center of communication.

Barrier-free design and innovative navigation

The Misereor website was strategically designed by JUNGMUT to optimize user-friendliness while emphasizing Misereor’s core values. A core objective of the relaunch was to design a low-barrier and accessible website.

Focus on goals, content and function

The implementation of accessible elements enables inclusive access to Misereor’s content. In the course of the relaunch, the website was particularly focused on Misereor’s political and educational mission. The innovative navigation at the bottom of the screen is an outstanding feature of the relaunch, which not only supports a modern design, but also ensures intuitive operation for mobile users. The relaunch emphasizes Misereor’s ongoing commitment to improving its online presence for humanitarian and development goals.

More than just a new design: The relaunch of the Misereor website combined innovative design with optimized structure and usability to improve the user experience and achieve the organization’s goals.

Focus on content and function: For Misereor, it was important that the website was not only visually appealing, but also informative and user-friendly. Easy-to-read texts and clear navigation make it possible to access information quickly and efficiently.

Strengthened political mission: The new website helps to strengthen Misereor’s political mission. It provides information about the organization’s positions on development policy issues and calls for political commitment.

One navigation for all viewports

The decision to place the navigation at the bottom of our website is based on strategic considerations and user needs.

The most important advantages of navigation at the bottom of the screen:
  • Ergonomics and thumb area: The lower screen area is particularly ergonomic for mobile use. It can be easily reached with the thumb and therefore significantly improves user-friendliness. This reduces interaction costs and makes navigation more intuitive.

  • Consistency with mobile apps: Many successful mobile apps have their main navigation at the bottom of the screen. By adopting this established pattern, we create a familiar and consistent user experience that makes the transition between different platforms seamless.

  • Free upper screen area: By placing the navigation at the bottom, we create space at the top of the screen. This can be effectively used for important elements such as headers, main content and visual accents, optimizing the aesthetic design and user experience.

  • Focus on content: The central positioning of the navigation at the bottom directs the user’s attention to the main content of the website. This ensures that the essential information is at the forefront and that the user journey remains clear and targeted.

This strategic decision on navigation placement maximizes usability, improves visual hierarchy and supports a coherent and engaging user experience across all devices.
